    ॥ शिवपञ्चाननस्तोत्रम् ॥
    प्रालेयाचलमिन्दुकुन्दधवलं गोक्षीरफेनप्रभं
    भस्माभ्यङ्गमनङ्गदेहदहनज्वालावलीलोचनम् ।विष्णुब्रह्ममरुद्गणार्चितपदं ऋग्वेदनादोदयं
    वन्देऽहं सकलं कलङ्करहितं स्थाणोर्मुखं पश्चिमम् ॥ १॥
    praaleyachalamindukundadhavalam goksheeraphenaprabham
    bhasmabhyangamanaangadehadahanjwaalaavalilochanam |vishnubrahmamarudganaarchitapadam rigvedanaadodayam
    vande’ham sakalam kalangkarahitam sthaanormukham pashchimam || 1 ||
    This verse praises Lord Shiva’s various forms and attributes. It describes His radiant white moon-like forehead, which is adorned with ash from the cremation ground and resembles a shining mountain. His third eye, which has the power to destroy, is also highlighted. The verse mentions that He is worshipped by Vishnu, Brahma, and other divine beings. His feet are the essence of the Rig Veda, and the verse ends by expressing reverence to Shiva, the one who resides in the western direction.
    गौरं कुङ्कुमपङ्किलं सुतिलकं व्यापाण्डुकण्ठस्थलं
    भ्रूविक्षेपकटाक्षवीक्षणलसत्संसक्तकर्णोत्पलम् ।स्निग्धं बिम्बफलाधरं प्रहसितं नीलालकालङ्कृतं
    वन्दे याजुषवेदघोषजनकं वक्त्रं हरस्योत्तरम् ॥ २॥
    gauram kunkumapankilam sutilakam vyaapaandukantsthalam
    bhruuvikshepakaataakshaveekshanalasatsamsaktakarnotpalam |snigdham bimbaphaladharam prahasitam neelaalakalankritam
    vande yaajushavedghoshajanakam vaktram harasyottaram || 2 ||
    This verse describes Lord Shiva’s physical features. His radiant face is compared to the delicate petals of a lotus and is adorned with vermilion and saffron. His eyebrows resemble bows, and His eyes are like arrows. The verse also mentions His charming smile and His blue throat, a result of consuming the poison during the churning of the ocean. Shiva’s face is the source of the Yajur Veda’s sound, and the verse ends by praising His divine countenance.
    संवर्ताग्नितटित्प्रतप्तकनकप्रस्पर्द्धितेजोमयं
    गम्भीरध्वनि सामवेदजनकं ताम्राधरं सुन्दरम् ।अर्धेन्दुद्युतिभालपिङ्गलजटाभारप्रबद्धोरगं
    वन्दे सिद्धसुरासुरेन्द्रनमितं पूर्वं मुखं शूलिनः ॥ ३॥
    samvartaagnitatitprataptakanakaprasparddhitejomayam
    gambiiradhvani saamavedajanakam taamraadharam sundaram |ardhendudyutibhaalapinggalajaataabhaaraprabaddhoragam
    vande siddhasuraasurendranamitam poorvam mukham shoolinah || 3 ||
    In this verse, Shiva’s fierce form is depicted. His complexion is like molten gold, and He is engulfed in the brilliance of flames. His profound roar is the source of the Sama Veda’s sound. His lips are red like copper, and His beautiful face is adorned with the crescent moon. He wears a snake as a sacred thread and a serpent as a garland. The verse praises Shiva’s eastern face, revered by sages, gods, and demons alike.
    कालाभ्रभ्रमराञ्जनद्युतिनिभं व्यावृत्तपिङ्गेक्षणं
    कर्णोद्भासितभोगिमस्तकमणि प्रोत्फुल्लदंष्ट्राङ्कुरम् ।सर्पप्रोतकपालशुक्तिसकलव्याकीर्णसच्छेखरं
    वन्दे दक्षिणमीश्वरस्य वदनं चाथर्ववेदोदयम् ॥ ४॥
    kaalaabhraabhramaranjanadyutinibham vyaavrittapingekshanam
    karnodbhaasitabhogimastakamaniprotphulladamshtraankuram |sarpropatakapalashuktisakalavyaakirnasacchekharam
    vande dakshinameeshvarasya vadnam chaatharvavedodayam || 4 ||
    This verse describes Shiva’s appearance as dark as a rain cloud, with bright eyes resembling a fully bloomed lotus. His ears shine with ornaments, and His forehead is adorned with a dazzling gem. He wears a snake as a sacred thread and has the moon on His head. The verse praises Shiva’s southern face, which represents the rise of the Atharva Veda.
    व्यक्ताव्यक्तनिरूपितं च परमं षट्त्रिंशतत्त्वाधिकं
    तस्मादुत्तरतत्वमक्षरमिति ध्येयं सदा योगिभिः ।ओङ्कारदि समस्तमन्त्रजनकं सूक्ष्मातिसूक्ष्मं
    परं वन्दे पञ्चममीश्वरस्य वदनं खव्यापितेजोमयम् ॥ ५॥
    vyaktaavyaktaniroopitam cha paramam shattrimshatatvaadhikam
    tasmaaduttaratattvamaksharamiti dhyaeyam sadaa yogibhih |oangkaaradi samastamantrajanakam sookshmatisookshmam
    param vande panchamameeshvarasya vadnam khavyaapitejomayam || 5 ||
    This verse delves into the philosophical aspects of Shiva. It highlights the distinction between the manifest and unmanifest states and emphasizes the 36 tattvas (fundamental elements). The eternal, imperishable and subtle ultimate truth is the focus of meditation for yogis. The verse acknowledges the primordial syllable “Om” and other mantras, and it praises Shiva’s fifth face, representing the pinnacle of radiance and the culmination of the Vedas.
    एतानि पञ्च वदनानि महेश्वरस्य ये कीर्तयन्ति पुरुषाः सततं प्रदोषे ।
    गच्छन्ति ते शिवपुरीं रुचिरैर्विमानैः क्रीडन्ति नन्दनवने सह लोकपालैः ॥
    etaani panca vadanaani maheeshvarasya ye keertayanti purushaah satatam pradoshe |
    gacchanti te shivapureem ruchirairvimaanaih kreedaanti nandanavane saha lokapaalaih ||
    The final verse suggests that those who continuously sing these five faces of Lord Shiva during the evening twilight time (pradosha) are rewarded by reaching Shiva’s abode. They journey to the delightful abode of Shiva with splendid celestial vehicles and enjoy recreational activities with the guardians of the world.
    ॥ इति शिवपञ्चाननस्तोत्रं सम्पूर्णम् ॥
